Istanbul is the city where I took the most beautiful portraits that I have ever photographed. Nowhere have I seen so many people's faces on which I could read a disarming sincerity and detached glances in the presence of a photographer. I always had the feeling that I looked at the face of the whole city.
Hüzün is associated with a melancholy feeling as Orhan Pamuk writes in his book Istanbul.
About melancholy, Pamuk considers it not a feeling that only one person experiences, Hüzün is that dark feeling that millions of people experience and share it".
However, while walking through Istanbul, I didn't see on people's faces sadness, regrets or suffering feelings associated with darkness, I actually saw beauty and serene faces.
